Welcome to the Latino Center at Governors State University


Title V Cooperative Grant / Latino Center for Excellence

Title V Cooperative Grant / Latino Center for Excellence is totally funded through a Title V Collaborative Grant from the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with Morton College in Cicero, Illinois.

The mission of the Title V Cooperative Grant/Latino Center for Excellence is to increase Latino student retention, to raise graduation rates, and to foster an institutional climate of academic success at Governors State University.
As a member, you are eligible to receive the following services free of charge:
- Early intervention alert system. - Academic writing/bilingual tutor - Membership in a professional organization.
- Mini grants for students who present at the GSU research conference in the spring.
- Goal oriented peer and faculty mentoring program.
- Loan book system commitment.
- On-line academic life skills workshops.
- Special scholarship guidance.
- Computer lab with fifteen computers
- Writing and Mathematics tutoring software.
- Individual advising for academic, financial, career, and personal issues:
- Individual academic plan
- FAFSA application support
- Internships and volunteer opportunities
- Professional development empowerment.

- Family, social and academic networking activities and strategies.
- Encouragement and resources to pursue a graduate degree.

Learn how to advocate for yourself, your field, and your community.
In addition, our program hosts social gathering activities in an effort to learn, network, and have fun.
